Optimise battery foil processing throughput with on-the-fly laser cutting
Laser cutting is an innovative solution for efficiently overcoming the challenges of roll-to-roll film cutting. Modern pre-focusing beam deflectors, such as the RAYLASE AXIALSCAN FIBER RD-50, have been specially developed for large processing areas. They offer the optimum combination of precision and speed that is required for demanding on-the-fly cutting applications. These systems can be used to enable long separating cuts or the cutting of entire electrode sheets. A large free aperture allows small spot diameters of about 50 µm, resulting in clean cuts and a minimal heat-affected zone. The lightweight mirrors in the beam deflection units allow high scanning speeds and dynamic cutting movements.

Pre-structuring for the sealing of battery casings
Adhesive processes play an important role in battery production. The company Robot-Technology, based in Großostheim, Germany, therefore relies on laser processing of the metal parts before the bonding process. This improves the surface properties of the components and ensures that the battery packs are sealed so that they are airtight and watertight.
