One Poster, Many New Perspectives: Michael Schael on Scientific Exchange at Advanced Battery Power

At his first Advanced Battery Power conference, Michael Schael from ISEA at RWTH Aachen University experienced the poster exhibition from both sides: as an author presenting his own research and as a visitor discovering work from across the battery community.

His poster introduced a modular, rule-based trading framework for battery energy storage systems in the continuous intraday market. Combined with simulated order book matching, the approach is designed to make trading decisions and market interactions more transparent. Rather than functioning as another inaccessible black-box algorithm, the framework provides an environment in which different trading rules, behavioural patterns and market effects can be systematically examined.

In his interview, Schael emphasises that the value of a poster exhibition extends well beyond presenting one’s own results. Direct conversations create new contacts, offer access to unfamiliar research areas and allow participants to explore approaches that may not be covered by their usual specialist work.

Advanced Battery Power 2027 will continue this exchange from 7 to 9 April at the Eurogress in Aachen. Around 180 scientific contributions are expected in the accompanying poster exhibition, providing authors and visitors with extensive opportunities to discuss current research, compare methods and gain new perspectives across the battery value chain.
