Horst Mettlach studied general electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen University and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU Trondheim) before beginning his career in 1995 in the electric vehicles division of Adam Opel AG.

Over the past 31 years, Horst Mettlach has developed battery systems based on a wide range of technologies (Pb, NiMH, NaNiCl, and Li-ion) for electric and fuel cell vehicles, for electric vehicles with extended range (Chevrolet Volt and Opel Ampera), as well as mHEV batteries for a wide variety of Stellantis vehicles. In addition, he represents Adam Opel AG / Opel Automobile GmbH in national and European research projects, in the field of national and international standardization, and in national and European working groups on the topic of electrical energy storage.

His current role is ‘Global Technical Specialist’ for traction batteries, with a focus on the development of Li-ion battery systems for mHEVs and HEVs at Stellantis.
