Gregory Offer
Professor in Electrochemical Engineering,
Imperial College London
Gregory Offer studied Chemistry at Imperial College London and graduated in 2001. He worked briefly as a management consultant for Deloitte before returning to do a PhD at Imperial, obtaining his doctorate in 2007. Greg was then a researcher in Prof Nigel Brandon’s group and spent a year working in Government as an advisor before starting his research group in 2010. Greg was appointed as full professor in 2021, and is now Professor in Electrochemical Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Imperial College London and leads the Electrochemical Science & Engineering Group in Mechanical Engineering. Since starting his group he has worked with multiple industry partners on projects worth over £45 million.
Professor Offer’s research is at the interface between the science and engineering of electrochemical devices. Having trained as an electrochemist before moving to engineering, his research portfolio focuses on understanding the limits of operation, degradation mechanisms and failure modes of batteries, supercapacitors and fuel cells in real world applications, and the impacts and consequences on system design, integration and control. He has published multiple peer reviewed journal papers, patents, technical reports and books. Greg is a co-founder of three battery related start-ups and is still actively involved in Cognition Energy Ltd and Breathe Battery Technologies Ltd. Greg also co-founded and Chairs the organising committee of the annual Future Propulsion Conferences series in the UK.
