In his role at VARTA AG Dr. Nicolas Bucheris responsible for the strategic management of national and international research collaborations as well as governmental relations. His work focuses on advancing and positioning battery technologies within the European innovation landscape, spanning topics from novel materials and process technologies for electrochemical energy storage systems to scaling and digitalization of battery manufacturing. Technology scouting, stakeholder engagement, and representation of VARTA in key committees and associations are integral parts of his role. Since 2022, he has been a member of the BMFTR Industrial Advisory Board and serves as elected Chair of the Bavarian Center for Battery Technology (BayBatt) Advisory Board.

Prior to joining VARTA, he worked at SGL Carbon SE (2017–2021) on the development of high-energy carbon/silicon composite anodes. Dr. Bucher studied chemistry with honors at Ulm University and EPFL and received his doctorate (summa cum laude) through a joint PhD program between the Technical University of Munich and NTU Singapore, focusing on novel electrolytes and cathode materials for Sodium- and Lithium-Ion Batteries.
