CARL International Research Center at the RWTH
The Center for Ageing, Reliability and Lifetime Prediction of Electrochemical and Power Electronic Systems (CARL) was opened in 2022 as an interdisciplinary research centre at RWTH Aachen University. Research in this area at CARL is conducted by Prof. Figgemeier’s “Ageing Processes and Lifetime Prognosis of Batteries” working group, the “Modelling, Analytics and Lifetime Prognosis of Batteries” and “Battery System Technology and Vehicle Integration” departments as well as the junior research groups “Artificial Intelligence for Batteries” (Dr. Li), “Design, Sensor Integration and Finishing of Battery Cells” (Mr. Wasylowski) and “Battery System Design and Environmental Testing” (Mr Börner) under the direction of Prof Sauer, working groups of the Helmholtz Institute Münster (HIMS) under the direction of Dr Brunklaus (NMR), Prof Figgemeier and Prof Sauer, as well as working groups of the Joint Laboratory for Electron Microscopy (Prof Mayer), the Chair of Materials Applications in Mechanical Engineering (Prof Broeckmann) and the Chair of Statistics and Data Science (Prof Kateri).
