Battery management systems – basics and advanced concepts

Online seminar
VA26-00804
Participation fee: 745 €
The seminar language is German.

After a comprehensive introduction to battery management systems (BMS), advanced concepts of battery management systems are taught using specific examples. The topics of functional safety and cyber security in the BMS environment as well as BMS requirements and relevant standards will also be covered. In addition to the lecture, participants will work on case studies and tasks in small groups. There will be the opportunity to discuss participants’ own projects and work on real issues. By presenting and comparing specific BMS concepts from the industry, the seminar will provide a unique insight into the rapidly developing field of BMS technology.

Speakers:

Stefan Goede
Munich Electrification GmbH

Stefan Goede has been working in the field of BMS for 20 years. As a development engineer on the OEM side, he was directly involved in the development of battery management systems at Daimler, BMW and Tesla. In 2014, Stefan Goede and two partners founded the company Munich Electrification, a supplier of BMS. As CTO (Chief Technology Officer), he is responsible for the further development of innovative BMS solutions. On the topic

Battery management systems are an essential component of modern batteries in electromobility and in the field of stationary energy storage. The seminar covers a range of concepts that are crucial for understanding and implementing these systems.

This includes the core tasks of a BMS: monitoring, protection, SoX (State of Charge, State of Health, State of Function), balancing, diagnostics, safety & security. After a comprehensive introduction, in-depth insights into advanced concepts of battery management systems are provided using concrete examples.

The topic of system engineering and the interface between BMS and battery pack will be discussed. This is followed by insights into BMS hardware development and BMS software engineering. The topics of functional safety and cyber security are discussed in particular. BMS algorithms in the cloud and in the battery are also discussed.

Agenda

Online seminar, 09:00 to 17:00

  • Introduction to battery technology

  • Overview BMS & components

  • BMS functions

  • BMS architectures

  • SOC, SOH & cell equalization

  • Functional safety

  • Cybersecurity

  • Summary & outlook

Objective

After completing the seminar, participants will be able to understand the basic functions and components of a BMS. They will learn about the different system approaches for battery management systems and their advantages and disadvantages. By understanding the interaction between battery design and BMS design, participants will be able to define a BMS in a specific project.

Circle of participants

The event is aimed at engineers and scientists working in the fields of electromobility, energy storage and renewable energies.
