This work aims to discuss different approaches to model accurately the charge behavior of LFP cells under different operating conditions. Equivalent electrical circuit and physico-chemical models are compared. Parameterization tests are carried out on a small 2.5 Ah LFP cell. Model is validated by means of different validation profiles, considering temperature and current (constant and variable) as important parameters.
Error of the charge procedure of an LFP cell can be improved applying SPME or an EECM (with novel parameterization procedure). SPME shows higher errors than EECM (max. error 20mV versus 10mV). Vanishing of plateaus are better reproduced by the EECM. But, SPME requires less parameters for the calibration and is more reliable to extrapolate to other conditions. The choice of the model depends on the number of available tests and its purpose.
