With the growing demand of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) new regulations are agreed on to ensure that customers can expect a common standard in regard of the quality and safety of the purchased vehicle. Two noticeable regulations are the EU7 and the CARB regulation. One main focus of these regulations are the service lifetime requirements of BEVs in which both regulations are pushing the boundaries of the requirements. Violations against these regulations can lead to a callback if a certain percentage threshold is exceeded. Nevertheless, operating behaviors aren’t homogenous. A large variety of operating behaviors do exist that deviate by country of usage and the vehicles intended use. Due to the given operating behavior the aging progress of the battery differs. Therefore, the questions arises which usage behaviors have to be tested to reduce the chances of a recall. In this poster an idea for a data driven decision methodology will be introduced. It makes use of the VW BEV fleet data and statistics to reduce the amount of possible usage behaviors. Thereby, testing of batteries can be focused on the relevant usage behaviors which will reduce overall testing efforts while simultaneously ensuring that the underlying regulations will be met.
