Anton Paar GmbH
Great people | Great instruments
Anton Paar develops, produces and distributes highly accurate laboratory instruments and process measuring systems, and provides custom-tailored automation and robotic solutions. It is the world leader in the measurement of density, concentration and CO2 and in the field of rheometry. Anton Paar GmbH is owned by the charitable Santner Foundation.
To support you in achieving the highest quality of lithium-ion batteries, Anton Paar delivers solutions for characterizing active materials in battery materials research, checking the raw materials, verifying the quality of electrolytes and solvents before use, and much more.
Our instruments will help you understand how the particle size, porosity, density, viscosity, viscoelasticity, and adhesion of your materials affect the behavior and performance of your cells so you can adjust these parameters to create the best final product.
From research to production
Battery materials research
Anton Paar is your strong partner for battery materials research. Use our instruments to determine the liquid and bulk density, surface area, particle size, local electrical conductivity, topography, and surface roughness in order to optimize performance parameters. You can even use our instruments to follow electrochemical processes in-situ to maximize capacity and performance.
Measuring the pore size and particle size distribution enables you to optimize the properties of the working electrode. Anton Paar’s devices for measuring the true density provide insights into the appropriate mass/volume density in a battery package so you can optimize your cell for applications where either mass or volume is critical. For research into preventing separator failure, knowing the through-pore size means you can identify and reject unsuitable materials from the start. Understanding how your electrodes work on a nanometer level helps you optimize the electrode materials and electrode design to extend both the lifetime and capacity of your batteries.
If the thermal safety behavior of your product is an important part of your research, measure the flash point to get valuable information. For high-performance electrolytes, knowledge about viscosity can improve the electrolyte’s ionic conductivity. In the quest for novel materials used in anodes, cathodes and separators, microwave synthesis opens up unprecedented reaction conditions leading to new structures.

Research as the engine for innovation
A company that wants to be able to provide customers with the best solutions always has to do more than other companies on the market. Innovation is the basis for progress and part of our DNA. It is rooted in the close cooperation with our customers and is created via outstanding work in the field of research and development (R&D). For decades the company has invested around 20 percent of Anton Paar GmbH’s turnover in R&D. This team develops new measuring principles, sensor generations and technologies which contribute in the long term to expanding our market leadership and achieving this position in other fields. Using state-of-the-art production technologies, Anton Paar produces high-precision measuring instruments which are designed to meet the requirements of customers.
High-precision production and close contact to the scientific community
Over 3500 employees at the headquarters in Graz, eight other producing subsidiaries, and 33 sales subsidiaries worldwide ensure that Anton Paar products live up to their excellent reputation. The core competence of Anton Paar – high-precision production – and close contact to the scientific community form the basis for the quality of Anton Paar’s instruments.
