As part of a larger project, we are looking into the effects of temperature on the aging process of large formation commercial batteries. This poster discusses in general some of the findings for batteries cycled at 5°, 25°, and 45° to 80% state of health (SOH).

These large pouch cell batteries has around 60,000cm^2 of active surface area, and the aging process is not homogenous. Also there are many different mechanisms, side reactions, and other factors that contribute to the overall health of the battery which can result in shorter life expectancy and safety concerns.

It is imperative that the underlying degradation and processes inside the battery are better understood and correlated with battery characterization data during its first life (from 100% to 80% SOH) so that these cells can be properly assessed for continued operation, second life applications, or if they should be harvested or recycled.
