The Launch management of battery cell production lines lacks a clear state of the art description. As a consequence, high scrap rates and costs are alsmost inevitable associated with the launch of new battery cell production lines. Furthermore, automotive OEMs cannot meet their timelines for new model introductions to further increase the share of electrical vehicles on the road. Whereas many different methods exist that may support the launch of production lines, the application of those on the battery cell production, especially on the production of lithium ion battery cells, is not well combined so far. In combination with a maturity level model, the Fraunhofer FFB established a launch control method that already starts in preproduction to counter the expectations of delayed SOPs and high waste rates during the ramp-up. For this, well-known methods were combined with a new established maturity level model to monitor and control the launch of a new battery cell manufacturing line.
